Tastes of Lenox

Clothing Shopping Travel

Hi guys,

How was your weekend?

I was able to fit a lot of fun stuff into my mini getaway to the Berkshires. Since our trip was only  a one-nighter, we decided to start the vacation before we even left Boston with more pumpkin pancakes on Saturday morning.

After picking up our rental car in Cambridge, we made a pit-stop in Newton to check out the Great Harvest!!! They had samples of an amazing pumpkin bread with gooey cinnamon.

After two hours of singing and beautiful scenery, we arrived at the Lee outlets!!!!! You guys know I love shopping and I always fall for outlets. I got a super cheap J Crew blazer and two cute sweaters with a birthday gift card from Matt’s mom & dad (Thanks Candace & David!).

By the time we finished shopping it was nearing 3:30, so we had to eat quickly in order to make it to a wine tasting. We also didn’t want to spoil dinner, so we just split a few items at a cute bakery.

Quiche & Berkshires bleu cheese salad.

Then we headed out to the Hilltop Orchard for a quick tasting of Furnace Brook wines.

We enjoyed all the wines, but weren’t blown away by any one in particular. The sparking wines were fun and I liked the Muscato, which won best in the state last year. The warm fire was fun too, as the temps really started to drop at sunset. We checked into our B & B and got really bundled up so we could walk to dinner.

We were so torn about wher to eat dinner as there were a ton of good-looking restaurants in Lenox. So, instead of just choosing one, we decided to have tastes at a few places. The first location was Nudel, a tiny american noodle restaurant. We grabbed a seat at the bar, and Matt and I were both fascinated by the chef’s ability to quickly prepare so many unique things under pressure.

I sipped on an Abita Pecan Harvest, which was subtly nutty and pretty good.

Matt and I ordered the braised chicken, mushrooms, and spaetzle. Perfect for a 20 degree night.

Stop number two was a restaurant called Firefly. We had hoped to go to a wine bar, but it was too packed:( I ordered the Anchor Humming Ale. I liked it a lot, but it was a pale ale (which I usually don’t order) so my palette was a bit overwhelmed with the taste after a pint.
The main event was a butternut squash and mushroom pizza with goat cheese, parmesan, and balsamic drizzle. Though the crust was a bit tough and there was too much garlic, I still really enjoyed this. Not every pizza can be perfect:)

Our last stop was Bistro Zinc. We split a port…I haven’t had many ports in my lifetime, but every one I’ve tasted has been absolutely incredible (though they all seem to taste very similar?).

Dessert may have been the best thing we had all night. This crepe was filled with hazelnuts and it was covered in a caramel sauce. The thing that made the dish, though, was the sea salt that was sprinkled in the caramel. I LOVE the sea salt + caramel combo.

Sunday morning was SOO cold, but after a warm breakfast at our Inn, we braved the cold for a beautiful hike!

We were freezing afterwards (the wind!) but found a cute brewery, Barrington Brewery, for a couple of samplers and a warm sandwich before the drive back to Boston.

We just got home and I need to get ready for the work week, so you’ll have to wait until tomorrow for a recap of Sunday.

I was on Lenox at the end of September. I made it to that wine bar, which was nice. You hit all the restaurants I would have gone to if I had had more time.

Ahh, that’s the GH near me, love that place! Lenox is so cute, but I’ve only been in the summer when I’ve gone to Tanglewood. I bet it’s great in the fall.
