Eat Shop Sleep

Cooking

I feel like all I did this weekend was eat and shop. I guess that’s what you’re supposed to do the weekend before Christmas? I would be finished with shopping, except that one store I needed to go to was closed today, so not quite. As much as I love Newbury Street, I’ll have to say that Christmas shopping is a lot easier when all the stores are located in one building and you can load the car up when you’re finished. The grass is always greener, right?

Last night, we stayed in and made pumpkin pasta! Matt got the recipe from a nutritionist who came to speak at his company as part of their wellness program. It was good and I enjoyed having a new sauce on my pasta, but nothing spectacular.

I subbed almond milk for the cream, so I’m sure it would have been better with the real thing. The sauce consisted of pumpkin puree, garlic, sage, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sherry, and we used apple chicken sausage instead of ground turkey.  Served with an apple blue cheese salad on the side.

After dinner, Lauren and Evan brought over Eat, Pray, Love and an awesome little sampling of desserts from Whole Foods that we shared. I come from a family of competitive eaters, so I cut each one into four parts and made sure each quarter was perfectly equal:)

This little cup was stuffed with peanut butter cream!!!!!!! Drool.

This was a dark chocolate raspberry bar? He was really good but got overshadowed by the other two.

Would you look at the height on this thing? It had a second tier that was full of chocolate brownie! Cake was quite moist too. Whole foods bakery: I’m impressed.

We also popped open a bottle of one of my old favorites:

Eat, Pray, Love was really fun to watch, but like most movies that were books, I liked reading the story better than the movie. T’was an extremely cozy and relaxing Saturday night though.

Since Matt usually makes the pancakes, I snuck out of bed early this morning to beat him to it.

I added more pumpkin this time and they were extra fluffy. Mmmm.

I climbed stairs this morning but then didn’t feel so hot afterwards. I’ve felt a little off all weekend actually. Since I had one of these leftover from a sampler Kath gave me, I figured a little super juice wouldn’t hurt the system.

I added the mix to a smoothie of frozen banana, spinach, almond milk, vanilla yogurt, and honey. I enjoyed it so much that I was sad when it was gone.

Served with a open faced ham sammie on the ends of the loaf.

I’m headed to bed early (I feel like I say that every night and it never happens…). Tomorrow’s my Christmas breakfast at work!!

Chateau Ste Michelle – it’s located right here in Washington! The vineyard is actually RIGHT NEXT to the Redhook Ale brewery and Columbia winery. It’s worth visiting!
