Mahi + Barley Juice

Cooking

Wow, I feel so much better knowing I’m not the only person in the universe without cable. Thanks for the interesting comments!

Sooo, my IEP meeting ended up being just fine because the parents didn’t show and the team had a more casual discussion without them.

I took the day off from the gym so that I could spend my afternoon baking for a girls gathering tomorrow night. I’ll show you the final product tomorrow, but let’s just say I licked way too many bowls this afternoon.

Dinner was fantastic. I grabbed some mahi (marinated in lemon and olive oil) at TJ’s this week and pan-fried it. Tj’s frozen fish seems to be hit or miss so I wasn’t expecting too much flavor from these guys. But the fan-frying produced some nice greasy juices that made for an awesome sauce over saffron rice.

All together, this meal was spectacular, especially the little burnt pieces I scraped from the bottom of the pan:)

In continuing with our school night beer theme this week, Matt and I split the Treble Hook Barley Wine. We’ve had this before and knew it had the sticky sweetness that we like. It tasted soo good on a random Thursday.

I’m excited to have two social events to attend this weekend. And then it’s one more full work week until spring break!!!

My ideal weekend involves taking it easy(ier) Friday and then going out Saturday when I’ve regained energy.

What combo do you guys prefer?

The only frozen fish I’ve bought at TJ’s was wild salmon, and I didn’t like it. I may have overcooked it though. :-/

On weekends, I don’t know. I never get enough sleep, so on weekends I just want to stay in and watch a movie by the fire.

Hey! I’m always so intrigued by the different beers you show on your blog! Do you know anywhere in Boston where you can “make your own” 6-pack/where to find some unique beers?

    Thanks!

      Hi!
I know you can make your own 6 pack at Trader Joe’s (outside of the city limits…Coolidge Corner), but the selection isn’t always great. We get most of our beers at our local liquor (Huntington Wine and Sprits??) where you can buy just one beer from any six pack. Hope that helps!

We always would breathe a big sigh of relief when certain parents didn’t show up for IEP meetings haha.

I haven’t tried TJ’s frozen fish but might have to. I got fresh fish from WF but it’s so expensive!

I’m really intrigued by that barley wine ale, but what do you mean by “sticky sweetness”? I’m not sure I’d ever describe a beer I’ve tried with those words so I’m curious. Is that the “wine” side of it talking?

I believe many barley wines have a high sugar content which leads to a thick, syrup-like consistency that seems sticky to me. This particular one was also on the sweet side compared to many of the bitter strong ales out there, and thus “sticky sweetness”! Thanks for the comment:)

You’re lucky, I don’t get Spring break until the week before Easter. March is going to be loooooong!

I am a big fan of the TJ’s Mahi Mahi. Just made some this week. I usually bake it but will have to try the panfrying version.
