Duke Loss, Beer Win

Uncategorized

Good weekend?

Mine was pretty ordinary until I had a phenomenal beer and pizza experience last night. Matt and I had a gift certificate for a hole-in-the-wall joint called Penguin Pizza that’s been recommended to me numerous times for the extensive beer list. I actually would have stayed there all night if we didn’t have plans to meet up with friends right after dinner. I had the Widmer Barrel-Aged Brrbon, which is the best thing my lips has tasted since, umm, last week in San Fran. Heaven. The waitress didn’t know the name of the beer, so it wasn’t until just now that I realized I had this just before Christmas and was obsessed with it.

I was happy enough with the beer, but the pizza was mind-blowing as well. We ordered half of the seasonal pizza – butternut squash puree with goat cheese and fried sage leaves – and half of the fig, goat cheese, and prosciutto pizza.

Both made my heart sing, but I liked the prosciutto a wee bit more because the fig paste was sooo sweet.
After dinner, we quickly went over to a sports bar to watch the game. I had a Berkshire Brewing Co. Cabin Fever, which I’ve enjoyed a few times before, but I just wasn’t into it last night. The bourbon beer spoiled me for the evening and I think anything would have tasted bland after it.

Unfortunately, Duke did not pull off a win last night, but that’s the beauty of ACC basketball. And now it’s time for March madness, so the upsets will no doubt continue:) I actually didn’t have too much time to be sad about the loss though because we moved on to a third event right after the game. A friend of Matt’s friend was having a house warming party of sorts in the North End, so we stopped by to enjoy some conversation. I snagged a Harpoon Belgian Pale Ale and was very happy to be able to indulge in one of my new favs. at a house party.
Today has been a typical lazy sunday with lots of couch time and a little cleaning. It was quite warm out so Matt and I traded gym time for an hour walk around Boston. We also made a semi-fancy dinner, which I’ll share with you guys tomorrow. Gotta go watch a movie.
Do you guys like lazy or busy Sundays?

Lazy Sundays! Both the SNL version & the version I indulge in nearly every week–where I stay in pj’s all day and eat popcorn for dinner. 🙂

I’m a relatively new resident of the West Fens, so I’m still getting to know the area. I love it when you call my attention to local spots I didn’t know about! I can’t wait to try Penguin Pizza!
