Choklat Affair

Uncategorized

So, my plan last night was to make a homemade pizza and try to get the Duke game on ESPN.com. But then Matt and I both caught Friday night fever and after stumbling on the beer list at the Mission, we just couldn’t resist a fun night out. So, we hopped on the train to mission hill and scored a seat at the bar, right in front of the game.

When I see beers I haven’t tried, I sometimes get a little carried away. I started with the Brooklyn Brewery cuvee noire. It was nice and nutty, but a little bland for this palette. Halfway through the beer, I switched with Matt and finished his Harpoon 100 Barrel Maple Wheat. I wasn’t in love with this beer either, but I really appreciated that I could detect both the maple and the wheat on the finish – I like it when beers taste like their descriptions!

(sorry about the photography – the bar was dark and I had to be quick because my camera was dying)

After recently becoming very fond of Long Trail’s Double Bag, I was pumped to see a Triple Bag on tap! I obv. had to get it. I took one sip and told Matt and it tasted exactly like the triple version of the double bag, whatever that means!:) But, yeah, it was delish.

For dinner, I ordered a chopped salad with avocado, corn, chicken, bacon, apple, and gorgonzola. The salad was great, but I wasn’t crazy about the oriental-mandarin dressing that it was paired with. It was ok though, because it was one of those salads that had more toppings than greens, so it didn’t need a whole lot of dressing to be tasty.

For dessert, Matt and I split Southern Tier’s Choklat Stout. Excuse my french, but holy shit, this was phenomenal. I took a few sips and then called the bartender over to order another. This was hands down the best chocolate stout I’ve ever tasted – pure cocoa on the nose and pure alcohol on the finish. I probably should have taken note that this beer was 11% ABV before drinking my own 12oz pour. Needless to say, that wonderful chocolate is still giving me a headache this afternoon.

I got up to go to spinning this morning, but decided to skip it and hydrate instead. I later spent 40 minutes on the Expresso bike, riding through the beautiful desert. Matt and I made a quick trip to TJ’s and just enjoyed a late lunch with more basketball. Finally, there are good games on our local non-cable channels!

Tonight, we have very exciting plans to participate in Boston’s restaurant week. Stay tuned for the recap!

Anyone else in the Boston area going to restaurant week?

I think it’s gone for the season, but Boulevard Chocolate Stout is AH-MAY-ZING and I highly recommend it! We’ll have to look for Southern Tier’s.

looks like a fun night! when you guys move down here you will have to go to milltown in carrboro. they have SO many beers it’s ridiculous – I mean pages and pages. whenever I go with my boyfriend and a friend of ours, who both love beer, I know I am going to have to entertain myself as they pour over the menu and then immediately upon receiving their beer they start looking through and figuring out they’ll want next!!
