Art & Beer

Uncategorized

I mentioned yesterday that my Sunday afternoon involved visiting a museum and drinking some of the good stuff. The family I babysit for managed to score two free tickets to Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts, and since I’ve never been, I figured I should go before I leave.

What I didn’t know was that there was a breathtaking exhibit of Chihuly’s blown glass creations on display. What a treat! I’m honestly not a big fan of those 1800’s paintings of plump naked women (though it does build my self-confidence:)), but I love modern paintings, photography, and sculpture. This was right up my alley. In fact, I think I’m obsessed!

Take a look for yourself!

Isn’t it amazing? It’s also cool that he’s an American artist and his work can be found all over the U.S., especially on the west coast near his gallery in Seattle.

What took place after the museum was also a big treat. We were in the neighborhood of one of my all time favorite bars in Boston (the Mission), and I knew we needed to go one last time before we move. I started with a half pint of a Sixpoint Sweet Action, a cream ale brewed with peach. It was light and hoppy and very unique. As you know, I’m very influenced by the weather, and since it was 50 and rainy, I think it was just a bit too summery for the moment. So, my second beer was dark. I got the Delirium Nocturnum – a perfect Belgian beer that somehow tasted light and crisp, despite the color.

I drank half and then Matt and I simultaneously decided we wanted to switch! I finished his Dogfish Head Midas Touch, which was probably the most unique light beer I’ve had this season. It was thick, but had hints of muscat grapes, so there a bit of a white wine aftertaste. I LOVED it.

And because we have hard time letting go, Matt said we should split one more 10oz while we had such a great selection in front of us. We got the Big Bear Black Stout, which had that slightly sweet chocolate flavor that I love so much. But it was still smooth and bitter at the same time. Man, I thoroughly enjoyed everything I tasted and I’m sad we won’t have access to this gem anymore. So glad we went for one last visit though! It’s been a while since I did some beer tasting and I can’t wait to do more in Durham.
Going to knock out those last few pages of The Hunger Games and then rest for eyes for eight hours in preparation for another day. k bye.

I love the Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts- haha I DO like those 1800s paintings.. I’ve only been to Boston once (unfortunately!), but I really enjoyed visiting that museum.. Congrats on being done and graduated though! Such a fantastic feeling, I know!

That museum looks amazing. That’s the kind of art I’d want to see.

I love that you love craft beers. I feel like a lot of people our age don’t appreciate good beer so it’s always nice reading your blog and seeing another fellow craft brew lover.

I saw some of his stuff a few years ago when it was in St. Louis and I agree–seriously amazing stuff!
