To Market, To Market

Durham Restaurants

Today’s weather was peerrfect. I don’t remember it getting this cool this early in the year though. I guess this is atypical?

Matt took me to Foster’s Market for dinner tonight in honor of finishing his first round of business school exams. Foster’s is an adorable marketplace with salads, sandwiches, baked goods, and a daily hot food item. I used to go to the Chapel Hill location growing up, but have never been to the Durham one.

We sat outside and enjoyed the fresh air and blue skies.

Matt and I split a helping of the spicy cajun chicken and grits. Yum! I’m so used to the idea of shrimp and grits, I’d never thought of chicken and grits. But give me a pile of meat and cheese seasoned to perfection and I’m happy.

We also split a chicken panini with red peppers, spinach, swiss, and pesto vinaigrette on sourdough. Durham is panini heaven – this one was a major winner.

Dinner was awesome, but what really made my taste buds dance were the cupcakes I got to try this morning. I’ve heard of Daisy Cakes – the cupcake shoppe operated out of a big silver van named Sugar, but I had not been lucky enough to try a daisy cake until someone brought them in to celebrate a birthday today. I had half of a carrot cake and the icing was up there for best cream cheese ever. But the other half I had was the star – banana cake with peanut butter icing. It was just how you’d imagine, but better. I have a new favorite cake place in Durham!

Can’t believe tomorrow is Wednesday already! The rate at which time passes seems to be speeding up as I age….

Sleep tight.

It’s already Wednesday in Australia, if that makes you feel better! I know what you mean about time though. How is it September tomorrow??? Seriously, where has the year gone? I think it’s fulltime work that makes the days speed by… so much more you have to pack into your free hours!

Spicy Cajun Chicken and Grits? That looks AMAZING – I definitely need to try it. Time is certainly speeding up, every single day – not sure how I feel about that yet.

I love the idea of chicken ‘n grits. That sounds like just a delightful contrast to shrimp.

I can’t believe that Matt is done with a round of exams already – I feel like y’all were just moving down there. Congrats!
