Headache and a Hairy Salmon Burger

Cooking The Working World

It’s getting to that point in the year when things are busy…but in a fun way! Yesterday, I made the last minute decision to accompany Matt to an end-of-term party. Before I knew it, I was drinking winter beer and indulging in this glorious mint chocolate cupcake with ganache in the middle! The party was fun, but it meant I ditched everything on my to-do list and got to bed way past bedtime yet again. Oh Christmas season.

I think the lack of sleep led to a massive headache today. That, and the fact that my stress level is skyrocketing at work because one of my absolutely critical co-workers is leaving in a week! Not only am I sad to see her go, but she may not be replaced for months. It could be a long spring….

So I left work early so that I could lay down and deal with the headache. Because I didn’t make it to the gym, I had lots of time to chop and roast a huge pan of brussels and sweet potatoes though! I also tried the chipotle salmon burgers from Whole Foods and really liked them. Except…see that? Yup, that’s a hair in the picture, that I peeled away from the burger. Given the color, I’m assuming it was mine, but it still kind of grossed me out and took this dinner from an 8 to a 6.

After dinner, Matt and I caught up on our chocolate advent calender (somehow we forgot to eat 6 through 12) while watching my sister’s wedding video. We are trying to decide if it’s worth it to get a videographer, and after seeing her video, I’m thinking yes!

I know you all probably have opinions on the topic? Do tell.

We debated about whether or not to get a videographer too. For some reason I had a really distorted idea about what wedding videography was like and didn’t want to pay that much for someone when I could “just have someone put up a tripod”. But I found a really great videographer and fell in love with the cinematic style. His highlight videos look like movie trailers & now it is one of the things I am most excited about for our wedding. 🙂

I didn’t have a videographer and I don’t regret it, BUT! I recently saw cupcakes and cashmere’s wedding video and it’s amazing! (http://cupcakesandcashmere.com/wedding-video-sneak-peek/)

hi, just curious. I notice you get alot of headaches on this blog (or maybe it’s just the posts I read?). do you have really low blood pressure? i do and get headaches at even the slightest level of dehydration.

Oh my gosh, yes! I’ve linked them to dehydration, but never knew that had anything to do with blood pressure. My headaches have actually gotten a lot better this year (last year was really bad), but I still get them a couple times/month. I almost never feel completely hydrated:(

You know, my friend has a migraine problem, and it’s blood pressure related, and so is her mom’s headache problem.

We couldn not afford a videographer for our wedding, but we got some great footage of important moments from friends with iphones.
There is something to be said for a great wedding video, but we were more inclined to spend our $ on the stills (and splurges like an amazing DJ and fantastic food).

A lot of brides want to cut the videographer to save money but I always tell people to drop something else! Our wedding video has helped us remember so many things that would have been forgotten by now, and it’s the only way the bride can ever really see the ceremony! We watch it every year on our anniversary and we love it. Just my two cents!

Headaches are the worst! Do you think it was correlated to your drinking? Are your headaches just headaches or are they migraines? If they’re related to your drinking and staying out late, I’d be cautious of posting that on a public space, especially since you had to leave work because of it! Do your coworkers know about your blog? Just trying to give you some thoughtful advice. Doesn’t look very professional if you are bragging about sipping winter brews and then saying you had to come home because of a headache. I hope they’re not related, but it’s hard for it to not appear that way 🙂

They are the worst! And you make a good point! While I think it’s clear that headaches are related to dehydration (drinking) and lack of sleep, I don’t think this one was a direct result of my evening. I only had one beer around 7pm and went to bed at 11 instead of my usual 10:)
