Back To The Grind, For Now

Hi!

Whew, last week was a whirlwind. Going back to work is always crazy, but this year I’m moving more slowly and tire more easily. I finally feel like I’m back in a routine, but last week felt exhausting. One of the PE teachers found me a giant yoga ball, and I’ve been using that at my desk and alternating between the ball and the chair. My back just aches sitting at the computer, and I’m most comfortable when I’m standing up. I also had some weird nerve and groin pain last week, but the chiropractor thinks that my bones are finished shifting and that my pelvis ‘looks perfect for labor,’ so I’m hoping that won’t come back.

The kids don’t return until this Wednesday, and I’ll be glad once the halls are filled with excitement and the staff meetings slow down. I want to get super organized and ahead so that I feel good about taking maternity leave.

The weekend felt heavenly and Matt and I did a lot of nesting – we cleaned out cabinets under the sink, reorganized the pantry, installed the carseat, and finished our childbirth classes!

On Saturday, we filled our stomachs to the brim with sweet southern food from Pink Magnolia. It’s restaurant week(s) in Dallas, so we decided to give a new restaurant a try. We started with the brisket nachos, which were huge!

I got the shrimp and grits as my entree and was impressed – there’s a lot of variation in this dish across restaurants (too many tomatoes, too much sausage, etc.) and this one was just the right amount of spicy and creamy with a good amount of shrimp.

The only thing that was a little disappointing was the dessert – I ordered the peanut butter ice cream with chocolate ganache and caramelized banana and the banana part was bad! They tasted like they were the green ones that were cooked yesterday and then left to harden. It was also more like soup than an ice cream sundae, but I can always eat a bowl of sugar:)

Hope you guys have a great week. We’ve got lots of rain over here, but I’m loving it because the temps have dropped which is a sure sign that baby fall is coming!!

    Do you have a nursing stool? I found that to be way more comfortable for nursing than the ottoman that came with the glider. They are wooden and small. If you can pick one up now bring it into work and rest your feet on it while you are at your desk. This was a HUGE lifesaver for me at the end of both my pregnancies. Somehow the angle takes the pressure off of your lower back.     How much maternity leave will you be taking? Hang in there, baby is almost here :). Your parents must be so thrilled to be getting a granddaughter!

      About 10 weeks and then we get the holidays off. It doesn’t feel like much!

    Huzzah for being near the end!
    As a matter of interest – when you get something that’s wrong rather than something you just don’t like very much, like the bananas in your pudding, do you speak up at the time and ask for a correction (whether replacement of the same or substitution)? I always try to do so, in a really polite manner, in order not to have a wasted course and to alert the restaurant to a potential problem.

      I usually do, especially if it’s an entrée. But sometimes not if it’s something small
