Ringing in 2018

Brooklyn Cooking Weekends

It’s funny, thinking back to last year, I remember being a bit disappointed I couldn’t go out to a fancy restaurant and drink lots of cocktails for NYE.  This year?  I was so excited for a night on the couch with Matt. I planned the menu and Matt went and got all the groceries on Saturday, so we could relax and enjoy Sunday a bit more. I joined the Y last week, so I checked out a total body conditioning…

2018 Goals

Cooking Life Ramblings Travel

I’d say these are loose goals – I don’t like putting too much pressure on myself to change, but I certainly welcome January as a time to reflect and make improvements. -Invest in friendships new and old – important for my sanity right now. -Spend some time thinking about future career goals and possibilities. -Write more blog posts – I’ve got the time now, so why not? I installed a new theme to make things look a bit more modern…

My Go-To Recipes

Cooking

I’m happy that I’ve been able to keep up with cooking since having baby Emerson. Eating real/clean food is important to me, but so is time – I wasn’t sure how much I’d need to rely on convenience food once I had a little one. While I’m definitely buying more quick items like rotisserie chicken and veggie burgers (and ordering in at least once a week), Matt and I have been tag-teaming food prep and we usually make dinner together…

Weekending

Cooking

I’m wrapping up a great weekend with perfect weather – brilliant sunshine and temps in the high 70’s. I’m thinking about all those affected by the flooding back home though:( Friday night, we stayed in and cooked per usual. Although this sweet potato gnocchi was actually from the weekend before, it’s an easy recipe, so I figured I’d share. Just GF all-purpose flour and sweet potato in the blender, and homemade pasta was born! I sautéed the gnocchi with chorizo…

How I Fill My Stomach

Cooking Life

Hope y’all had a great long weekend – it felt amazing to have that one extra day and we did a lot of relaxing over here. Ever since writing this post about treating my IBS, I’ve received quite a few requests to blog about my daily eats. I know I fill this space with pictures of pork belly, bourbon, and tons of tacos, but I promise I cook Sunday-Friday:) It’s taken me almost 5 years to figure out how to…

Standard Pour

Cooking

It’s the eve of a long weekend! I just went to a lovely yoga class, and now I’m relaxed and ready for Friday. Other than a dinner reservation, we don’t have much on the agenda. You? I owe yall a blog post from last weekend – Starting with Friday evening, Matt and I walked to our neighborhood bar for a dark n’ stormy. It’s been very dark and stormy for weeks here, so it was nice to get a moment…

Derby Party

Cooking

Matt and I hosted our very first Derby party this weekend. We had a small crowd at first, but closer to race time, we had a packed kitchen and started running low on bourbon! For the juleps, I made a simple syrup and then packed the jar of syrup with mint to sit in the fridge overnight. They were good! I made a simple spread of food because I wasn’t sure how hungry people would be at an afternoon party…

Smoke

Cooking

After the craziness of the past few weeks, it was glorious to have a weekend at home! The weather was perfect all three days. On Friday, I took a long walk and ended up at LOFT, where I scored a pair of black shorts 40% off. Matt and I made a pizza and drank wine and sat on the couch all night. That was lovely. On Saturday, we randomly invited some friends over for drinks on our deck. We were…

Weekend of Hosting

Cooking Durham Restaurants

We had too much fun this weekend! Matt’s sister came to visit and we had all kinds of good eats and drinks. Friday, we made homemade margs – one of my favorite things since we bought really good tequila over the summer – and then we walked to Victor Tangos. I can never get enough of that place. There’s an energetic vibe, the cocktails are creative and ever-changing, and the food is fun. I had a drink made with house-made…
