Back in Time

Durham

Good Evening. I’m scurrying off to bed because I’ve been busy all night: The Fuqua partners organized a Durham Bulls outing. It was tons of fun being back in the stadium because I grew up going to games with my family. Typically, I’d bring a girlfriend, my dad would give us a twenty, and we’d spend the game looking at boys and trying to stretch our money out over the innings; nachos, fries, sometimes a taco, but always the ice…

Tasting Tobacco Town

Durham

So where did I leave off yesterday? Ahh, yes, the basil beer. I’d seen this on tap in Hillsborough and practically ran towards it when we arrived at Fullsteam last night. I love farmhouse style beers and saisons – and with a hint of basil? Yes, please. It was subtle, but certainly detectable, and expectations were met. Once I quenched my thirst, I surveyed the food trucks. I really wanted to try the Korean bbq that was recently written up…

Working Lunch

Durham The Working World

Today was the first day at work that I really felt like I was in the swing of things. I didn’t get up early to work-out this morning and I noticed a major difference in my energy levels and there was no headache (I had one the first three days). I also had a meeting and a couple of projects to work on, so the hours few by. The best part about today though, was my discovery of the lunch…

First Beer in Durham

Durham

Today was another long day of unpacking and driving around the Triangle trying to find all the things we need. My sickness finally turned into a runny nose, so I’m feeling a lot better, aside from the fact that I haven’t slept much in days. Tomorrow I will finally sleep in! Matt and I were able to make a nice trip to Whole Foods and we enjoyed corn on the cob and local chicken sausages before walking over to Tobacco…

Whew

Durham Travel

We’re here… And the past three days have been exhausting. I woke up feeling terribly sick on moving day and haven’t been able to shake the nausea and sore throat I’ve been battling. My body picked a great time to get a cold. And, I got a last minute interview today (which was great news), but I felt completely overwhelmed. The worse is over now (I’m hoping) and I was able to enjoy a home cooked meal on Duke plates…

Spontaneous

Durham

Hello. How’s life? I finished babysitting around 5:45 today, and just when I was about to call Matt and tell him I was really craving a beer on a patio, he called me to say he was in the neighborhood after his doctor’s appointment (he has a strained meniscus:(). Before I knew it, I was not only sipping a Pretty Things Jack D’or on the patio of Beacon Street Tavern, I was eating one of the most amazing pizzas I’ve…

Durham Shopping

Today was loooong, but the beautiful weather made up for it. And, I snuck in a 5 minute nap on a grassy hill while the boy I babysit was off playing with his friends (shhhh). I got off work much later then usual, but managed to fit in a 20 minute jog and some pushups before collapsing at the table with a big bowl of cereal and a pb + j. I’ll be so glad when my long Wednesdays are…

Thirsty Thursday

Durham

All the beer samples from last night left me soo thirsty on this sunny Thursday. Despite chugging water all day, I just could not catch up. Don’t ya hate that? So, I decided that a nap was definitely in order when I got home from work. 20 minutes in the flannels felt just perfect and I woke up feeling refreshed and ready to pedal my heart out at spinning. It was a great class and I topped it off with…

Simple

Durham

In continuing with my resolution to try a new recipe every week, I made a jambalaya-ish dish last night from a recipe I found in Real Simple. It was, in fact, really simple, and really good. This flavorful combo consisted of apple chicken sausage sautéed in olive oil with shrimp, a can of diced tomatoes, peas, and salt and pepper. T’was perfect for satisfying my weekly craving for a big ole rice bowl. — I had a book club meeting…
