Duke Loss, Beer Win

Uncategorized

Good weekend? Mine was pretty ordinary until I had a phenomenal beer and pizza experience last night. Matt and I had a gift certificate for a hole-in-the-wall joint called Penguin Pizza that’s been recommended to me numerous times for the extensive beer list. I actually would have stayed there all night if we didn’t have plans to meet up with friends right after dinner. I had the Widmer Barrel-Aged Brrbon, which is the best thing my lips has tasted since,…

I may have a new favorite restaurant in Boston… Matt and I ventured to the new Back Bay restaurant Lolita for drinks and apps last night, and I loved it! The space is dark and swanky with exposed brick and red lighting. We hung out around the bar for a while before snagging a seat. I sipped on a glass of white sangria flavored with vanilla vodka, peaches, and pineapple. The chips and salsa spread was awesome! I believe these…

Clown Shoes on a Friday Night

Uncategorized

Beer, pizza, friends…I had a hard time concentrating on bowling with so much other stimulation in my environment! That’s my excuse anyway. Beer one was a Tuckerman’s Headwall Alt. from North Conway, NH. He was quite refreshing, but a little too generic for the buds. Number two was pleasing – a Belgian IPA by Clown Shoes that was spicy and light up front with a slight hop on the finish…Loved it! I also loved the pizzas served from American Flatbread at…

Favorites: Dining & Dried Apricots

Uncategorized

Dining out is probably one of my top five favorite things in life. The excitement of the bread basket, choosing a beverage, and the anticipation of receiving the menu and waiting for the entrée to arrive are so much fun! In the past, Matt and I have chosen low-key restaurants for V-day, but we had a restaurant.com gift certificate for Avenue One that is expiring soon, so we went with swanky this year. I had a swordfish in a brown…

Burger + Bacon

Cooking

Weekends just come and go so quickly:( Around eight last night, I found myself drooling over this delicious piece of meat at Tasty Burger. I had planned on ordering the veggie burger, but when the waitress said it was actually made of tofu and not vegetables, I decided it wasn’t for me. My body does not seem to be a fan of soy products. It took me a moment to get over how much grease was dripping from he burger,…

Two for Two

Friends, I had yet another amazing dining experience last night. But first, Saturday… I always preach to my students about the role of relaxation in stress reduction, but I often forget about this little tip myself. So, I made yesterday all about me. I went to spinning class in the morning, made a delicious pear, blue, cheese, and mushroom flatbread for lunch, painted my nails, flipped through spring clothing catalogues for pre-shopping inspiration, and lounged on the couch with my…

Grass Fed Beauty

For our weekly date night, Matt and I headed to Harvard square to have a beer at an old favorite and eat dinner at a new gem. Grafton Street Pub has been one of our favorite restaurants since we first ventured to Cambridge during my graduate school interviews – the atmosphere is urban but cozy and the beer selection is great. I ordered the Berkshire Brewing Co. Cabin Fever, which was perfectly balanced and very drinkable. We warmed up at…

On a Roll

Uncategorized

Oh pint, I love you. I started my weekend off on the right note with drinks with the girls in a cozy bar. I think I’ve mentioned before that Sam’s Boston Brick Red is one of my go-to local beers. I actually don’t think it’s sold outside of Boston. I actually split this second beer with Lauren. It was a Harpoon UFO White, which I generally like, but not so much on a freezing cold winter day. At this point…

Give me liberty AND give me pizza!

Uncategorized

After years of talking about it, Matt and I finally made it to the Liberty hotel.  For those of you who aren’t familiar with Boston, the Liberty is an old jail that was converted into a swanky hotel with some of the original structural features still intact. And it exceeded all expectations.  You must go if you’re ever in the area! There was a short wait for a table at Scampo, one of the restaurants at the Liberty, so we…
