Brooklyn Staycation

Brooklyn Life Weekends

For once, the long weekend actually felt really long! I realized Matt hasn’t had a day off where we stayed in Brooklyn since Christmas, so it was wonderful to just relax at home for an extra day. Matt’s parents actually came up on Saturday, and we had so much fun showing them our new home.

We spent Saturday morning going for a run and cleaning our apartment, and then we hit the promenade as soon as my in-laws arrived.  It was HOT, and even though I like it hot, I’m not used to the humidity here.  We walked to the carousal in Dumbo and we were sweaty and thirsty by the end of the walk.  Emerson enjoyed three rides and then threw her usual fit when she realized she couldn’t keep riding:)

We made our way down to Brooklyn Bridge Park for dinner at Fornino at Pier 6.  This was the perfect kid restaurant, as you order up front and then just find a picnic table on the patio.  I thought the pizza and gf crust were pretty awesome, and the drinks weren’t bad either. We’ll definitely add this to our list of inexpensive dinner options with Em.

The rain rolled in on Saturday night, so Sunday was much cooler. We spent a lot of time just catching up in the morning and then braved the drizzle for lunch at DeKalb Market.  We took a long walk through the neighborhood in the afternoon, stopping for a round of German beers (and organic wine for the girls!) on the way home.

We ordered a Thai feast and then stayed up late chatting and enjoying this bottle of Chardonnay.

Monday morning, we took Matt’s parents to French Louie for bunch and I got the socca again. So good!

We said goodbye to Matt’s parents after brunch, as they had a four hour drive ahead of them. And then we realized the weekend was still going and we could plan something fun for the afternoon. We did nap time workouts, and then packed up the stroller for a ferry ride over to Governor’s Island.

We didn’t have a ton of time there, but the island was great and a nice escape from the traffic of the city.  We walked a bit, checked out a play area, and ordered some jerk chicken to snack on from one of the many food trucks. Emerson loved the boat, and it’s super close to our apartment, so we’ll definitely be back.

Loving this short week!
