Family Dinner

Durham Restaurants

And the fun continues! My sister was in town this weekend, so I was able to spend the day hanging out with family. The girls headed to the mall to do a little maternity shopping (and a little spring shopping for me!). Love the colors in the stores these days – I got two spring dresses and cannot wait for warm weather. We had a nice lunch at Panera and did a little relaxing this afternoon. We also did a…

Stopping Hunger

Durham Restaurants

Brrrr. It’s been a chilly weekend here, so I did what I do best – stayed inside and ate good food! Matt was out of town Friday, so I took myself to Fuqua Friday for dinner and drinks. Only when I arrived, the usual buffet had been replaced by a million people wearing hair nets! Turns out, Fuqua students and staff were stuffing thousands of bags with rice and seasonings to send off to a Stop Hunger campaign. It was…

Wine & Weather

Durham Restaurants

I started a new babysitting job today. I swore I’d never babysit for income after graduate school, but here I am. And it was great, but hard work! I went straight from babysitting to a lovely happy hour at Six Plates wine bar. You can’t beat a $4 glass of wine. This was a nice cab, nothing special, but enjoyable nonetheless. A variety of appetizers were shared by all. I had bites of everything – the truffle fries, an arugula…

Piedmont

Durham Restaurants

Man, I love Saturday nights. We dined at Piedmont for restaurant week with two of our friends. The evening commenced with cocktail hour in our apartment, where we opened a bottle of wine from Matt’s parents. I’m usually not a huge pinot fan, but this wine was fantastic! At the restaurant, I was excited to see a bourbon drink with orange bitters – I’ve had this combination before and loved it, so I knew it’d be a winner. The bread…

Celebratory Dinner

Durham Restaurants Travel

There’s nothing like a Friday night dinner with friends. Last night we tried Durham’s Blue Corn Cafe. We liked it alot! The food is fresh and a bit healthier that your typical Mexican restaurant. The service was great too and the margaritas tangy. I had the black bean tortas with mango chutney, rice, and plantain chips… It was a great way to celebrate my last day at work. I’m in New York now, for a short visit, and two birthday…

Old Havana

Durham Restaurants

The other night, when it was cold and dark, and sad not being on Christmas break, Matt took me out for Cuban food. I’m a huge fan. I mean black beans and plantains on a big old pile of rice? Always a good choice. The Old Havana Sandwich Shop is a new restaurant in Durham that uses local, pasture-raised pork in their traditional platter and sandwiches. The inside felt tropical!! We split a traditional cuban with pickles, pork, ham, and…

Served at Foursquare

Durham Restaurants

Hello, Hello! Thank you all for the kind words. I’m honestly a bit scared about the decision and I felt better reading your comments:) A great weight was lifted off my shoulders on Friday, so my weekend was extra fabulous. After work, I made a black bean mexican pizza and enjoyed an old favorite beer with Matt. The weekend also involved a festive tacky sweater party, and a red velvet cupcake tasting. I’m in charge of ordering the Christmas dinner…

Wound Up

Durham Restaurants

Yall know I love nights out during the week. Tonight was no exception. I went to the wine bar for a small wedding shower for one of my Fuqua friends. We all brought an ornament to share- a very cute idea! I had a wonderful glass of red wine. I actually don’t even know what it was because I asked the bartender for a recommendation and he poured a glass. The wine bar is called Six Plates because they have…

Prom ’11

Durham Restaurants

I took your advice and got a tree! I really didn’t want to have to buy a stand, so I searched for the biggest table-top tree I could find. I ended up bringing home this adorably fat tree – it looks more like a bush:) This is only the second time we’ve ever had a tree, so we don’t have many ornaments. But both of our moms donated a few to get our collection started. We decorated the tree quickly…
