    “Why is dried fruit so expensive”? Fruit shrinks significantly as it dries. Pits are removed (from pears and apricots, for example). So if you consider that a dried pear half began as half of a fresh pear, the cost is not as different. A ¼ cup serving size of dried pear would come from one or more whole fruits, but with sugars concentrated and sticky on teeth!
