There and Back

Travel

I’m writing to you from the bus from Hyannis back to Boston! We’ve had a horrendous day of travel, but the weekend really couldn’t have been more perfect, so I knew something would probably go wrong on the way home. Despite arriving for the ferry 30 minutes ahead of time, there was an insane line for the first come, first serve boat. But since we had been assured that the 750-person ferry had only filled up a few times in history, we didn’t worry about getting on. Well it reached capacity today, leaving about 500 people still in line. It wouldn’t have been a big deal except that the next ferry wasn’t for 4 more hours and we couldn’t get out of line for fear that we wouldn’t make it on the next one. So, I spent most of my day sitting on my suitcase in a parking lot. When we finally made it to Hyannis at 4:30, we found out that there were issues with the bus, so we spent another 2+ hours in a hot bus terminal. But the weekend really was perfect!

Yesterday it was warm enough to go to the beach, so we spent a couple of hours drinking beer and soaking up the sun. Pure relaxation. I managed to make it through the day with only a small burn patch on my arm where I must have missed a spot.

We showered, grilled more dogs and burgers, and just enjoyed conversation until dinner time. The weather so soo fabulous.

We went to a cute patio downtown and I had an awesome mojito before dinner.

We ducked into a festive nook for tacos before heading to the infamous Chicken Box for the remainder of the evening. There was a live band and the place was so hot and packed, that we all left soaked in sweat with our feet covered in dirt. But it was a blast.

The highlight of my weekend, though, was the plate of nearly raw peanut butter cookies and brownies that I came home to all three nights (thanks to Oliver’s mom!). There’s just nothing like a midnight dessert to top off a night on the town.

Thanks to our host for an incredible kick-off to what I hope will be a great summer!
