Charlotte Life Travel Weekends

Hello out there.

We are home from Bald Head and have a short week packed with the chiropractor, swimming lessons, my gestational diabetes test, getting unpacked and re-packed, and Matt’s birthday! Side note: I just noticed all the pictures from my BHI post were sideways – how embarrassing!  This happened once before when I blogged from my iPad and it’s so annoying because they don’t appear that way in the preview. Anyway, we are heading to Hilton Head for the long holiday weekend, and I’m so excited because we haven’t been since college.  The timing isn’t really ideal, but we couldn’t say no when our friends from Boston told us they’d be just a couple hours drive from Charlotte.

After a really tough travel day on Saturday, we were very happy to be home. I think Emerson’s sleep depravation had accumulated because she was just awful in the car/after the ferry, and then slept for 13 hours on Saturday night. We all felt refreshed on Sunday – we started the day with pancakes, took turns working out, got groceries, did laundry, and put almost everything back in our suitcases for Hilton Head. We also went out to Acai bowls for lunch!

After dinner, Emerson randomly threw up after coughing a bit, and I figured we’d be in for a whole night of stomach bug, but she was totally fine after and has been eating normally since.  Has this happened to anyone else?  Fingers cross I don’t get it if it was something contagious.

I was so thankful Matt was able to stay home with her so I could go to the doctor for my diabetes test. The juice was a lot better than I remember (clear fruit punch instead of the stuff with the dye), and the hour went by in a flash.  I’ve been feeling even bigger and slower lately, and my doctor confirmed about 5 lbs and 5cms of growth in the past 4 weeks. I’m hoping I can remain somewhat active through July but movement is getting hard.

I think I’ve started nesting because I’m suddenly obsessed with getting curtains and artwork for our living/dining area asap.  Any recommendations on buying artwork? We’d really like something original, but after looking at tons of places, finding the right size, colors, style, and price is proving impossible.  I’m starting to think a $200 print from World Market is a lot easier and a whole lot cheaper even though that feels random. I love this local Charlotte artist.

I hope you guys get to take some time off for the holiday!!  I’m honestly a little beached out (head to toe sunscreen + heat + lugging toddler and gear is tiring), but so excited to hang with friends and spend some time at the pool. We have zero plans for the 4th, so I better go Google some firework on HH now.

And a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Matt who will be halfway through his thirties tomorrow:)  Here’s a picture of us jumping off a gulet in Turkey for his 30th, which still goes down (obviously) as Matt’s favorite birthday surprise and one of the best days of my life!!

PS: Don’t miss the Beautycounter 4th of July promotion if you are interested in trying the Countermatch or Countercontrol lines because you’ll get small sizes of the line of your choice for free when you spent $175.

Isn’t your mom an artist? Couldn’t she paint some artwork for you?

She is! She specializes in whimsical animals and children’s art, and we are looking for an abstract modern piece for the living room

That would make a great birthday or Christmas gift. Isn’t your little sister a famous blogger? Hint, hint!

Had your mom created a piece of art featuring your daughter? She’s such a doll, looks just like your dh.

We’ve purchased a few of our favorite pieces at Festival in the Park at Freedom Park, held every September. Might be worth checking out if you’re still on the hunt in a few months.

I bet Emerson got sick from all the fat and sugar in the açaí bowl. Those things can be rough on the tummy. Anyhow, I hope that’s all it is and everyone else stays healthy!

Thanks:) I doubt it – she’s had one before and we split it three ways.

If the bare spot is annoying …put up something temporary that is cheap and easy and start saving for the perfect piece. It is so satisfying to find the right item when you have searched and/or saved for it. It makes it all the more meaningful.

The same thing happened to us with our daughter re: cough and then throwing up – was bracing myself for stomach bug but nothing else happened! I thought maybe when she coughed it made her gag a bit and then throw up but who knows, hopefully was just a one time thing for you guys too.

I feel you on the slowing down – 33 weeks this week and I feel like the last 2 weeks things have felt way more tiring! Looking after an almost 3 year old is a workout and just general tasks feel more exhausting. Trying to keep active without totally wiping myself out! Hope you feel good going into third try!

my daughter used to always throw up when she coughed as a toddler! actually she just did a few days ago and she is 8 now. I think its just their sensitive gag reflex, or if they get a little mucus they freak out and it makes them throw up. her stomach never hurt it was just the gag reflex.
