A Rainy Brooklyn Weekend

Brooklyn Life Weekends

I hope y’all had a nice weekend.  And I hope those who have any relationship with motherhood were able to find some peace in yesterday’s holiday.  I was talking to my doorman this morning, and he said his country just has a huge holiday to celebrate all women, but nothing for men.  It’s funny because I was thinking yesterday felt more like husband’s day because Matt did so many nice things for me:)

We had gorgeous weather in Brooklyn last week, and I spent every second I could outside.  I’m amazed at how beautiful it is here now that the trees have filled in. It’s a whole different place! Emerson is getting so confident at the playground and is learning how to defend her toys.  I think she may be having a mental leap because her sleep has been terrible, and she’s saying a ton more words now!

Sadly, the weather this weekend turned cold and rainy. Poor Matt has essentially missed all the nice days as I feel like rain always falls on the weekends. On Friday, we made our weekly pizza, and enjoyed this fabulous organic wine from Chile.  My wine headaches/sinus stuff has gotten worse since having Emerson, so I figured I’d try drinking organic wine with lower sulfite levels to see if it helps. I felt great after 2 glasses from this bottle, but who knows if it was just a coincidence.

Saturday, I went to the gym for GRIT cardio in the morning, and then Matt had a soccer game so I did some stuff around the house.  Afterwards, we walked in the drizzle to a hole in the wall Asian/comfort food restaurant called Vexlers.  We had really, really good cocktails (for $10 in NYC!!) along with fried brussels, a short rib salad, sriracha tater tots, and a balsamic salmon.  The food really hit the spot and we felt right at home with all the other families in the restaurant.

Sunday didn’t go quite as planned, but I guess that’s motherhood for ya.  I wasn’t able to sleep in bc our apartment is just too small and there’s nowhere for Matt to go with Emerson to get her dressed quietly.  He did take her out to get me a chai latte and a scone, but my go-to shop for all the gf pastries didn’t have a single thing in the pastry case:(  We ended up walking to Dumbo for brunch at VHH Foods, but they didn’t have high chairs and Emerson was terrible sitting in her stroller.

We quickly scarfed down our food, took two quick rides on the carousel, and then walked the one mile home in lovely rain. Emerson fell asleep for the last block of the walk, and then went buzzerk when we tried to put her down for her nap.  I ended up just letting her snuggle with me and watch a nature show on tv while Matt cleaned. After playing for another hour, Matt got her to sleep in the late afternoon and we finally got to chill.

The whole day was kind of humorous, but it was just nice to feel special and spend time with my people. There’s nothing I love more than being a mama to a spunky toddler who keeps things interesting.

I’m going into this week very excited because Matt and I have something quite special planned for this weekend.  Hope you all have an excellent week.
