Holiday Fun

Charlotte Cooking Life Ramblings Restaurants Weekends

Hello out there!  Are you guys tired from the holidays? I sure am!  We packed our bags yet again and headed to Hillsborough for Christmas.  It was actually good to get out of our house because we were forced to take a break from the never-ending to-do list that came with moving into our house.

My sister’s fam came down from Charlottesville and I got to meet baby Birch!  Gosh he was tiny and very cute! Emerson got along great with Mazen and it was so fun that they could play together this year.

My parents got an offer on my childhood house right before Christmas!!  We all went to the house and said our official goodbyes.  I was definitely sad saying farewell to my room and thinking about all the wonderful memories I had there!

While in Hillsborough, we also went to a neighbor’s Christmas party one night and then a fun gathering with all my high school friends another night.  It’s so fun now that my group of friends have kids! Emerson had a blast and was exhausted by the time Matt’s parents arrived on Christmas eve. We pigged out on bbq and sides plus pumpkin cheesecake and wine that night. And then we did our annual Elfster gift exchange and the kids opened their stockings. I got a new yoga mat and an Athleta gift card:)

Christmas morning was so exciting this year because Emerson jumped for joy when she saw the presents Santa left.  She got a few more toys than last year plus some necessities for preschool.  I’m glad we kept it simple because she got so many toys from her Grandparents!!

We tried to get a good Christmas picture, but Emerson refused to cooperate unless she was holding the camera.  A Christmas selfie will have to do this year.

We also went to see a movie on Christmas day, but I’m not sure I would recommend The Favourite.  It was certainly interesting, but a little depressing for a holiday.

We came home the day after Christmas and immediately resumed the unpacking and stream of various people coming work on the house – we got our tv mounted, fixed the electrical for the microwave, had someone look at the kitchen cabinet that needs adjusting, and had our sump pump repaired yet again. And we built Emerson’s new kitchen from Grammie!!  By the weekend, we were exhausted and ready to relax. We had a fun Friday with some Davidson friends who were passing through, and then went to dinner at new-to-us restaurant on Saturday night.

We had a very low-key New Year’s.  I made a big trip to Whole Foods (I was in heaven walking through the aisles after a year-long break!!) and we picked up ingredients for a cheese plate, bacon-wrapped dates, Korean pork ribs, mushroom polenta and acorn squash. By the time I got home, I was too tired to cook.  Haha. Luckily, Matt took over and we enjoyed Manhattans and wine and all.the.food. Dessert was ice cream with leftover flourless chocolate cake from Christmas. I had a food hangover, but luckily no real hangover this year:)

We enjoyed New Year’s Day by checking out Freedom Park, grabbing brunch at The Suffolk Punch (loved it!!), taking a neighborhood walk, and recouping on the couch.

Sorry that was somewhat of a random and unorganized recap!  If you can’t tell, I’m completely out of steam from moving/toddler/holidays/house stuff. Now that we are finally feeling a bit more settled, I can’t wait to re-commit to getting in bed early!

Happy 2019!

Nope – I think Matt just googled it, and we used a Korean barbecue sauce from Whole Foods that was amazing!

How neat that you still have friends from high school! What’s Elster? We have all different stores where I live, not even a whole foods or trader joe’s!

Whoops – typo. Elfster is a secret Santa website that allows you to draw names for a gift exchange:)
