Charlotte Fitness

Charlotte

I’m excited to explore the Charlotte fitness scene.  I was super spoiled living above a YMCA in Brooklyn, but the classes weren’t the greatest.  I’m trying to find something that inspires because I’m finding my taste has changed over the past couple of years.

I’m checking out Burn Boot Camp but can’t quite decide if it’s for me at this point in my life. I love the sense of community (it’s all women), and I’m happy after I’ve finished a workout. I feel strongly about weight lifting and love the variety. But I find myself dreading going to class. There’s a lot of one-on-one attention – you always have to be ‘on’ and there’s many days I just don’t want to be pushed.  And I’m not into the nutrition/focus meetings part of it because I’m not going to have someone measure my body and tell me it needs to be a smaller. So we’ll see. Oh, but they have free childcare and I really love that you don’t have to reserve a spot in childcare or sign up for any of the classes in advance.

I’ve also tried five yoga studios so far and LOVED the hot classes at Y2, Yoga One, Charlotte Yoga and Vibe5! NoDa yoga was good too, but much more low key and freezing. I’m getting the sense that hot yoga is a real scene here (especially at Y2). I wish I could find a yoga studio that has strength classes AND childcare AND is affordable.  In the end, I’m guessing I’ll just join the Y because it’s super affordable, offers everything, and the facilities at the new one are beautiful.

Lastly, I’m loving that I can  jump around in my house and blast music now, so a little Popsugar fitness action has been fun too.  I got a new yoga mat for Christmas and have enjoyed a nice Barre video with beautiful Indie music here and there.

What are you guys into these days? Does your taste change year or season?

Have you ever tried Barre3’s online classes? I LOVE them. It pushes you, but you can choose to modify if you’re having a low energy day or for the postures that don’t feel good for your body. They really emphasize listening to your body, which I love. They offer a free trial: https://barre3.com/trial It looks like they’re going to be opening up a studio in Charlotte soon!

You’re welcome! I think you would! They also have a huge library of workouts and add a new one every week and at the beginning of the month. So, you never get bored.

I joined Planet Fitness because it’s the cheapest! I can’t imagine what some of these gyms charge a month.
