Day in the Life: Last Week of Summer

Life Toddler

This summer, no two days have been alike!  While I loved the fun and flexibility of summer, I’m excited to get back into the rhythm of the school year. Plus, I think Emerson is happiest when she has some days with friends/school and some days with mom.  Here’s a day in our life this week:

6:25 – Emerson’s is crying – this is an hour earlier than her typical time and I am soooo tired (Matt’s traveling & Em was sick Sunday/Monday), so I get her and see if she wants to go back to sleep in my bed.  She says no, but agrees at least to lay quietly for a bit and we snuggle. We might fall back to sleep for 15-20 minutes, but I’m not really sure. Ha. Around 7, she’s asking me questions, so we talk and then finally get up.

7:20 – We go down for breakfast – overnight oats for me and yogurt with almond butter for Em. I eat breakfast in 2 seconds and make my tea, and it takes Em a lot of yogurt bites with playing in between to finish her breakfast.

8:30 – I straighten up the kitchen and then we got upstairs to get dressed, freshen up, etc.

9:00 – I feel like we should stay home for one more day just in case Em’s contagious (she had a fever & sore throat, although we’re doing round 2 of urine testing because there was bacteria indicative of a UTI, so who knows), but I REALLY want to get out of the house and the weather is cooler, so we head out of a very slow walk. I think we covered about 8 blocks in 25 minutes and it starts to drizzle just as we make it back.

9:30 – We sit out on the porch and play I Spy and sidewalk chalk.

10:30 – I do a little stretching and a few arm exercises with weights while we listen to music and Em dances around.

11:15 – We run to Harris Teeter so I can get Emerson some pouches since she’s doesn’t quite have her normal appetite.

12:00  – I make lunch for  – kale and quinoa salad with pistachios, parmesan, & cherries plus falafel that I made on Sunday.  Emerson has a veggie pouch, milk with chocolate protein powder, and a few bites of pasta.  I straighten up the kitchen while she’s eating so I don’t have to do it during nap time.

1:00 – We go upstairs  to play in the loft, but I really, really want to take a shower. I ask Emerson if it’d be ok and if she’d come in with me (meaning come play in the bathroom). She thinks I mean come in the shower and strips down. Haha. So she comes in the shower with me and pretends she’s at a splash park.

1:45  – We get dressed again and I put Em down for her nap with our usual routine: 2 books, 2 stories, and a song.

2:15 – I enjoy nap time on the couch and write Tuesday’s blog post, do our monthly household Target order, text with some friends. I usually go to the pantry for handfuls of random things like cereal, chips, & trail mix during the afternoon lull and drink a seltzer.

4:15 – Em wakes up and is grumpy. Luckily, a new Angelina book had arrived from my mom and she’s excited to open the package (she was getting really annoyed that packages were arriving for sister’s nursery and not for her lately.)  She has cheddar rockets and Bamba as a snack and then stops being grumpy:)

5:30 – She asks me if she can watch the Angelina show so I give in and take the time to prep dinner for us.

6:00 – Emerson has leftover Banza mac & cheese with a smoothie (chocolate protein, spinach, banana, milk, berries, peanut butter), and I try this Shakshuka from Trader Joe’s for myself.

I added two eggs and served it over rice. The mix was great but in an attempt to make sure the eggs weren’t too runny, I overcooked them to rubber:(

6:30 -Matt is killing time at the airport, so we FaceTime with him.

7:00 – We go back up to the loft to play (we usually either play doctor or Em ‘cooks’ something in her kitchen), and then I get her ready for bed and change into PJ’s myself.

8:15 -After I put Emerson down, I come back down to the couch and reheat a chocolate chip pancake because I’m still hungry after the Shakshuka. (We’ve been using this recipe on weekends and it’s pretty good).

9:15 – Matt arrives home (!!) and we catch up a bit. He does some work while I get all the shipping addresses organized into a spreadsheet from the Beautycounter sample giveaway.

10:30 – One little chocolate night cap and we head up to bed.

11:00 – Ten minutes of reading (currently reading  This Is How It Always Is and enjoying it!) and lights out!
