New Beautycounter Products

Skincare & Beauty

Beautycounter has launched so many new products this year. Here’s a roundup and reviews of the new products I’ve tried.

The Clean Deo

[the launch of the deodorant has been delayed bc of some shipping issues (basically, it wasn’t holding up well in the heat). Check for updates on Instagram or subscribe to my newsletter and I’ll let you know when it’s coming]

This is a big product launch and has been 5 years in the making! I’ve been really happy with the Primally Pure charcoal deodorant (and cleaner deodorants that work are really hard to find), so this one has a lot of live up to!

It comes in three scents: fresh coconut, soft lavender, and clean rose. I like the coconut the best – smells like a pina colada + the sunscreen of my childhood. That being said, the scent is pretty strong, and I find the other two to be more subtle. Note: these are not synthetic fragrances – and all fragrance ingredients are disclosed on the label and tested for trace contaminants. The PP charcoal doesn’t have much of a scent, so I find this to be a huge plus. It’s pleasant wafting up from the underarms + covers up any lingering body smell:)

So far, it works great! If you’ve never used a more natural deodorant, you do sweat much more, and that takes some getting used to. But, I’ve been pleasantly surprised that it works as well as Primally pure. Even after I work out and I’m soaked, I don’t smell any body odor, and I had Matt confirm:) Since the aluminum used in traditional antiperspirant clogs up your underarms, it can take several weeks to get used to because of the bacteria that can build up in there. BC recommends using the charcoal mask in the pits to helps clean things out at the beginning.

But what’s really cool about the Clean Deo is that it’s refillable! So instead of throwing away that huge plastic container every time it’s empty, you buy a minimally packaged refill to insert into the shell. The price point may be a barrier for some ($28 initially, and $18 for the refill), but I’m willing to spend a little bit more for a more eco-friendly product, and I’ve heard it lasts a while.

At first, I wasn’t sure if I’d switch from Primally Pure, but I think the scent and the fact that it’s refillable have won me over.

Countersun Sheer Defense for Face

I LOVE this and am so glad they created a sunscreen just for faces. While I like the Countersun stick for kids especially, it’s too greasy for everyday wear. The sunscreen is made with non-nano zinc, layers perfectly with makeup, and doesn’t leave your face white. My only complaint is that it comes off easily if you sweat a ton (I tried to go for a run with it on), so I’d stick with the regular sunscreen or stick for an active day in the sun.

Counterstart Cocoboost Moisturizer

Counterstart is the new line for people with no skin concerns (breakouts, anti-aging, dryness) or sensitive skin. It only includes two products: the Cocoboost Moisturizer and the Cococream Cleanser. I was excited when it launched because it’s at a more budget-friendly price point. I splurge on Countertime for the night cream, eye cream, and serum and wanted something less expensive for my day time lotion since I seem to go though it quickly. This is a great, basic lotion that is nice and thick (but not heavy). It’s made with coconut oil + aloe, so it’s very soothing.

All Bright C Serum

The All Bright C Serum was another huge product launch because it is the sister product to the fan favorite Overnight Resurfacing Peel. It brightens skin and defends against environmental stressors, known to cause dark spots and discoloration. And antioxidants (turmeric root extract and camu camu fruit extract) offer protection against pollution, free radicals, and daily stressors.

The All Bright C Serum contains 10% vitamin C in two ultra-stable forms. I guess Vitamin C can be very unstable (especially in its purest form) so it can lose its effectiveness quickly – if you see serums with higher than 10% vitamin C being sold at crazy high prices, you’re probably being ripped off. The serum is also formulated without ethoxylated ingredients (including PEGs) and dyes that are common in other products.

It’s used in the treatment step (so after cleanser + toner but before moisturiser). It has almost a gel-like consistency, so it leaves your skin feeling a little dewy. It smells like turmeric, which I personally like, but a couple people have felt strongly about the smell. I’ve been using vitamin C for a couple of years now (used to use Mad Hippie), so didn’t see a huge difference in my skin when I switched to this one. But I DID see a huge difference when I introduced vitamin C to my skincare routine initially, and have gotten a lot of feedback that people love it!

Twin Skin Featherweight Foundation

I LOVE this stuff and only wish I had somewhere to wear it! The finish is soo nice and the shade (I wear 210) is perfect. It’s just the right amount of coverage for me too, and doesn’t feel thick or cakey. And there are no mineral oils, cyclic silicones, or synthetic film formers! But what is really cool is that it contains hyaluronic acid and jojoba esters which plump and smooths skin immediately and help to minimize appearance of fine lines over time. So its not just makeup, it skincare too! There’s no need to give your skin ‘a break’ with this makeup.

The shades are inclusive as well!

Sheer Genius Conditioning Lipstick

This is like a mix between a balm and a lipstick. It’s designed to be creamy, moisturizing, and weightless. Beautycounter also just switched to ethnically sourced (there are issues with child labor and harvesting vanilla), ECOCERT-Certified organic Madagascar vanilla as the scent to the glosses and sheer genius. The packaging also has a magnetic closure, which is nice so that the top does not come apart in the your purse.

I’m really not much of a lipstick person (don’t like how they feel and I get shy about wearing bold colors), but I wanted to try this to see how it’s different from the classic lipstick. It’s definitely more creamy and moisturizing, but not thick like a balm (was kinda hoping it was even more like a balm). The color was still bright and long-lasting, so I’d definitely pick this over a regular lipstick. That said, it will probably stay in my drawer most days because I just prefer lip balm (slash, I’m addicted).

I hope that was helpful! I didn’t include affiliate links in this post, but I’m happy to help if you have questions or would like other recommendations.
