We’re Moving!

Home

Sorry for ghosting you (again)! When I finished up work in June, I had every intention to start blogging weekly. But then we bought a house! A friend’s neighbor unexpectedly took a job out of state; we decided to make an off-market offer thinking they probably wouldn’t accept and would want to take it to the market with the craziness of real estate these days. But they accepted and here we are. We listed our house a few weeks later and it sold the first day! It seems kind of silly to be moving four blocks to a house similar in size, but there are many pros like a beautiful view, a play room, and friends as neighbors!

If you’ve been following along on Instagram, this didn’t exactly come out of nowhere. Matt and I were in the process of meeting with contractors to see if we could find a way to add a quiet office space to our house. Working out of the guest room just wasn’t working mostly because of noise – it connects to the main bathroom so the sound barrier is bad and Matt is on calls all day. He recently took on a new role and after 18 months of crying, singing, arguing, poop talk (haha) and everything in between on his Zoom calls, we started to consider moving. We also priced office space and since a private space was around $500 a month (much more than the small increase in our mortgage); we liked the option of moving more. Matt likes the flexibility of being home (lunch, snacks, mid-day work-outs, popping out to see the girls.) Oh and there’s the whole pandemic thing. We had some other complaints about our house that I won’t get into here because it feels silly to complain about small things – I realize it’s an incredible privilege to be able to change housing when you don’t like your layout.

In our neighborhood, it’s impossible to find a newer house that isn’t giant; and if there is one, there’s a crazy bidding war. We are incredibly thankful that we were able to buy the house off-market! And really none of this would have been possible if there weren’t record low interest rates coupled with crazy appreciation on our home value!

Needless to stay, we’ve been a bit overwhelmed these past few weeks. We are so ready to get into our new house and hopefully stay there for MANY years! Let me know if you all are interested in more house posts – I always feel a little awkward sharing house stuff because it can seem showy and because it’s always a work in progress. I know I enjoy seeing the inside of other people’s houses:)

Love hearing about the house and the move! It doesn’t seem showy at all and having 2 girls the same ages as yours would feel very relatable with moving etc. Goodluck with the move!

Congrats – what amazing luck you have! Being in L.A. (Pasadena, CA), the housing market is insane. Homes are selling anywhere from $100k – $400k over asking; so competitive that off market would be the best case scenario. And yes, please post house stuff!

Yes please to house stuff. I don’t think it’s showy though I just did a bathroom renovation and kept it off social media so I know what you mean. I love HGTV and would love to live vicariously through your blog house stuff!

Congratulations! +1 to more house stuff. I’m always interested in what other people like vs dislike about their homes, the more “trivial” the better haha! I have experienced myself what a big difference little things make, as pros or cons.

This is such great news! Congratulations! EVerything happens for a reason 🙂 and life is too short, so if there’s a solution – take it! I would love to see some house posts. We anticipate moving in the next 1-2 years so I love hearing about all the nitty gritty!

Also we got those string ball lights to hang on our patio last Christmas. They are still not hung lol. Things happen!

Oh, how exciting! Another vote for house stuff. You’ve been busy, we moved when the kids were little and it is a lot of work. Enjoy!
