Tidbits from the Weekend

Brooklyn Life Travel Weekends

These Mondays come and go so quickly!

We had a low-key weekend with all of the usual routines.  Friday, we had a fantastic dinner with friends at Celestine, a swanky and romantic restaurant with incredible views of the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges.

We opted for the family style menu and all the food was wonderful.  We had such a great time, and it was a treat to be out on the town.

I think I woke up on the wrong side of the bed on Saturday because I was a grouch!  We went out for coffee and muffins in the morning, and then Matt took Emerson out on a run.  What was supposed to be relaxing me-time turned into troubleshooting our Wifi baby camera, which wasn’t working on my computer for the babysitter the night before.  Come to find out the camera has been discontinued, so it’s not exactly easy to find answers to problems.  It was no big deal deal in the big scheme of things, but I got so frustrated and needed an attitude adjustment! Anyway, I ended up going to a restorative yoga class after Emerson was asleep.  It was kind of a weird class (we used chairs!), but I felt so much better afterwards.  I did the grocery shopping and grabbed pizza supplies, and Matt and I settled in for a relaxing night.

We made margaritas and washed our pizza down with ice cream. It’s funny how this is becoming my ideal evening these days. We watched Adventureland and thoroughly enjoyed the simple plot.

Matt took Emerson to toddler time on Sunday, while I enjoyed a total body conditioning class. The rest of Sunday consisted of baking cookies, making a good dent in my to-do list, a long, cold walk, and a relaxing evening of beer, salmon, and risotto.

As for Monday, I just tried an Xtend barre class this morning and loved it – it was more relaxing than the fast-paced classes at the Y, but obviously a bit more active than yoga, so it was just perfect for a Monday morning. They have a babysitter who watches the kids in an empty studio, and Emerson had the best time. There were only 2 kids and the babysitter was very interactive, so she seemed to like it much better than the Y childcare.  I wish I could go regularly, but its $$$.

I don’t have a thing planned this week, but I see 70’s in the forecast!!!! Is it finally coming??

Next week, I’m flying down to NC to my parents’ house for my first solo plane trip with Emerson – I’m getting a bit nervous, but also getting so excited for a week away.

What’s new with you all?

Is shopping for groceries convenient for you in NYC? We recently moved to a city (not NYC) and shopping is different than it was in our previous suburb. I now shop in a small market (which I love). There’s a Trader’s not too far also. Just wondering if navigating your new city is different from your previous locations. It’s different for us but not bad, just different.

We have a ton of local markets, which I love, but they are very expensive. We also have a lot of delivery services, which are super convenient, but also $$ and sometimes hard to get exactly what you are looking for when you aren’t going to the store yourself. I stick to a pretty strict grocery budget, so I’ve been shopping at Trader Joe’s, smaller markets, and using delivery services in combination to get everything I need. I miss my car and my Whole Foods:)

I’ve flown solo with my daughter a handful of times for a 1 1/2 hour flight and it’s not too bad! I was super nervous for the first flight but now I don’t get nervous. You will be fine!
