5 Vacation Ideas for Winter

Travel

I’m so excited we’ll be living within driving distance to some mild winter weather!  I’m already thinking about a road trip to Charleston or Savannah for a long weekend this year. Here are some other ideas for places I’ve either visited or dreamed about visiting:

Key West, FL

This was our winter trip last year and it was fabulous.  It wasn’t warm enough in February to do a lot of water activities, but it’s such a cool destination and gets bonus points for being so walkable.

Santa Fe, NM

Although it’s cold (and I’ve only been there in the summer), I think this would be such a cozy destination for the holidays. There’s incredible food, a quaint town square, a cool art scene, and skiing near by.

Grand Hyatt Baha Mar, Bahamas

This resort is brand new and beautiful, and the Bahamas are so easy to get to. The Hyatt looks like it is the more sophisticated, more adult (but still kid friendly) version of the Atlantis on Paradise Island. Oh, and the Bahamas was just taken on the Zika list!

St. Simon’s Island, GA

This is a cute little island just north of the FL border with nice beaches and a tiny downtown. Matt and I actually stopped here on a road trip in college and have always wanted to go back. Seems super kid friendly and has highs in the 60’s in most of the winter months.

Miraval Resort, Tuscon

I’ve always wanted to go to this resort, but it’s way out of my price range. It looks gorgeous and the dessert is so peaceful. It’s all-inclusive and the nightly rate includes spa credits and activity credits, meals, hiking, and fitness and wellness classes. Even though it’s way too expensive for most people, it just became a Hyatt property so you can redeem Hyatt or Chase Sapphire points for nights now! Sounds like a good 10th anniversary trip…

Just to let you and your readers know that most of the Caribbean is still on the Zika list. Check with the CDC website to see exact locations. Avoid if trying to conceive or are pregnant!

Oh really? I know WHO organization just announced it would be taken off the list, but maybe CDC is more conservative? CDC did remove Grand Cayman, Bahamas, and St. Bart’s so the Hyatt would be safe.

All islands in the Caribbean are still on the list except for Bahamas, Cayman, Guadeloupe, Martinique and St Bart’s. Mexico and Central America are also still on the list. If you travel to sites on the list you should use avoid pregnancy (using condoms) for three months after your trip.

Thanks for clarifying. I edited the post just to make it clear!
