The Rainy 7 Days & All the Fun Things In-between

Life Weekends

Hello,

Sorry it’s been a while. After I blogged last week, Emerson got worse, and it turns out she had an ear infection. Poor girl. I’m still learning how to balance my new work load on days when Emerson is home or doesn’t nap for long, but I’ve caught up these past three days. Luckily, I’m working for some lovely ladies who know me well and are understanding if I don’t accomplish as much in a week.

My parents arrived on Friday for the weekend and Emerson was still feeling bad, so we read lots of books and ordered Thai food.  My mom also saw my blog/Instagram post about that cookie cake I was lusting after at Whole Foods, and made me the gluten free version with cup-for-cup flour and the Nestle Toll House recipe.  It was incredible, especially with caramel ice cream!!!

On Saturday, we tried to pretend it wasn’t gross out and walked over to the library to get Emerson some new books.  She spotted Daniel Tiger in a librarian’s hands and yelled across the room that we had to get it. That was enough to make her day.  It was colder than we expected, and we warmed up with southern food at a cozy hole-in-the-wall. I had bacon and grits and eggs with cheddar and my parents had meatloaf. Soul food.

Sunday was gross too, but we hunkered down inside and got some things done around the house. My parents brought 6 boxes of ‘stuff’ from my childhood room, and I spent a few hours going through memorabilia.  I kept sooo many many letters and notes from friends (and a few boyfriends) and a million pictures from high school.  It seems like sooooo long ago and reminded me of what an emotional and fun time those teenage years were. My mom and I also watched a million episodes of The British Baking Show (she’s really into it) and then we rushed to our local bakery before it closed because the show made us want all the treats. Once Emerson woke up, we all went out for Mexican food and then waited for Matt to get home from his soccer tournament.

It was still raining on Monday (and Tues., Wed., Thurs., and Fri., it turns out. Ha!), so we went to the mall and got Emerson a few things in size 3T.  All of her 2T shirts are too short, and she needed a couple of things to wear to school to get her through the winter. She seems less like a toddler and more like a little girl each day.

We said goodbye to my parents on Tuesday, and have been playing this Haba game ever since. We got it in our Green Piñata Toys (<–referral link if you want to try it), which has been perfect for these rainy days.  Emerson has been delightful this week which makes me realize just how sick she must have been feeling with the ear infection. She was in the best mood and so cute when we made a trip to a new allergist here on Wednesday.  I’m happy to say she officially tested negative for egg and we no longer need to report it or carry an EpiPen. Woohoo!

And just like that another week is over. We are looking forward to hosting Matt’s sister tomorrow, and she will certainly bring sunshine:)

It’s the worst to find out your child has an ear infection! I remember feeling so guilty when Emma was less than a year and we waited 24 hours to take her to the doctor and then we found out she had an ear infection and needed antibiotics.I still wait though as I don’t like to go to the doctor over every single fever, etc. Hard to make the judgement call sometimes!
