Cupcakes & Cousins

Charlotte Weekends

We’ve had all the visitors in town these past two weeks.  Matt’s parents were here last weekend, and although we had gross rain, we had a great time lounging and eating and catching up. Emerson adores her grandparents and even got to spend an evening with them while Matt and I had an awesome date night at Haberdish.

This weekend, Kath and her two boys came down from Charlottesville, and my parents came up on their way home from a Caribbean cruise! We surprised my mom with cupcakes from Gigi’s for the birthday (sidenote: they now carry FIVE different gf flavors everyday – it used to be two I think). We ordered burgers and fries from Bang Bang and then enjoyed the chaos of trying to cut the cupcakes so everyone could taste as many flavors as possible. Emerson went to bed before the cupcakes, but was thrilled to try her very first Peep.

Saturday was chilly but beautiful and sunny and we all went for a long walk before spending an hour or so at our local park. We picked up lunch from one of my new favorites sandwich and salad places, Siggy’s.  We did a lot of take-out because I wasn’t the greatest host in terms of prepping meals and because of the craziness of three kiddos (I can’t believe some people have three or four of their own btw!). Emerson and Mazen spent a lot of time running from one end of the house to the other and/or attempting to jump into the couch:) It’s so fun that they can run around together now.

After naps for two out of the three, we ventured out to Pizza Peel.  Pakced into a booth like sardines, we enjoyed pizza and beer.  It was such a fun night and I wish we all lived just a tad closer. Kath headed out bright and early on Sunday to make the 4.5 6 hour drive back home, and my parents stayed for one more night.

We took another long walk on Sunday that ended at Earl’s Grocery. Emerson’s dreams came true when we took her for a ride on the old trolley that goes down Elizabeth Ave. into Uptown.

Sunday ended with a pedicure (in preparation for a very exciting trip next weekend…) and a dinner of bbq salmon and sweet potato hash cooked by yours truly.

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend filled with sunshine too.
