Baby Charlotte Pregnancy Weekends

Well, another October First, with another baby, has come and [almost] gone.  I’d expected that this one would be late too, but got my hopes up around 38 weeks when baby dropped and I started having some cramps and sporadic contractions.  I don’t mind that much, as I’ve had such a relaxing week, but I am just ready to meet her so I can stop being nervous about labor and a healthy baby! I’m  not scared of labor like I was the first time around, but am still kind of dreading it – I’m so into sleep these days, and I really don’t want to be up all night before delivering a baby!  I think that was one of the worst parts about Emerson’s birth.

Even though I know the old wives’ tales probably don’t do anything, I’ve had fun trying them.  I had super spicy Thai on Thursday, ‘the inducer’ pizza from Hawthorne’s on Friday, and tumeric-filled Indian food on Saturday.  I also had an induction massage which was relaxing even though it didn’t work.  I have an true induction scheduled for next week, so fingers crossed something kicks in before then.  I’d love to be able to experience labor without Pitocin this time around.

Any advice for me in these final few days?

Stay tuned for a nursery tour and a post on postpartum fitness in the coming week. Hopefully, I’ll have some news to share soon! In the meantime, I’m just going to keep eating my way through Charlotte and getting as much rest as possible.

Labor will be much faster with the second. Don’t wait too long!

    Good luck.

I went in to be induced with my second and was pleasantly surprised when they only broke my water! They had me bounce on a ball for about an hour after breaking my water and I could feel the contractions at the end of the hour. Maybe that will be an option for you? I had them sweep my membranes TWICE with no effect and even though it was not fun and awkward we tried sex and that did nothing either.

Did it hurt when they broke it? My doc said that would be an option for me, but scared of the process!

It didn’t hurt at all! Kind of felt like a balloon popping inside me when they did it but there was no pain. Slightly uncomfortable when she was getting ready to do it but it wasn’t bad. I was really relieved to not have to use drugs to get labor started!
