All The Birthdays

Baby Kids Toddler

I’ve sat down to write this post like 5 times. We have been busy celebrating over here! It’s both fun and overwhelming that the three of us girls have birthdays three weeks apart:)

My parents drove down and we had a little party for Avery on her real birthday, October 3rd. We had a couple of friends stop by for a backyard cake smash too.

I couldn’t resist getting one of these beautiful initial cakes from The Batchmaker. Cris was sweet enough to make the cookie layers gluten free for me. She made the smash cake as well.

Avery wasn’t sure what to do with the cake at first (very different than her sister who put her whole face in the cake). Once I fed her a couple fingers of icing, then she started to get after it and ate a ton of cake. Emerson also ate large quantities with her sister:)

I probably should have taken it away a little earlier because this was all that was left – I think my mom helped too, haha.

After the cake, she spent most of the party crawling around the yard looking for rocks. Avery is such a serious baby! She got some sweet gifts and it was fun to think back on her arrival one year ago! I read her extra books and snuggled her tight that night. And then we ordered a feast of pizza for dinner with my parents.

Emerson turned 4 the following Monday! We had planned to surprise her with a trip to the zoo the Saturday before, but sadly, a hurricane came through and there was no way we were braving that kind of rain for an outdoor event. With all indoor exhibits closed, we were too worried about being miserable.

It turned out to be a good day to get takeout at the food hall, since the weather kept a lot of people away. Emerson got mac and cheese, tomato soup, and birthday cake gelato while Matt and I enjoyed lunch from Village Juice (they have the best bacon avocado toast).

Emerson’s real birthday was a school day, so we set our alarm for pancakes and balloons as a surprise when she we woke up. She also opened this Jasmine costume I ordered from Trish Scully and is obsessed.

Bravo Bakery made Emerson’s Lion King cupcakes; Em brought them to school and had a nice party with her class. I ordered some extras and we had some of her neighborhood friends stop by to grab a cupcake and run around in the front yard for a bit. I was thankful that Em didn’t seem to notice that she didn’t have a more formal friends party this year.

We ended the day with FaceTime calls with family, a ravioli dinner, and a few more gifts from Matt and me. Other than her beloved unicorn balloon flying off into the sky (the ribbon broke, boo), I think she had a special day! She is SOO grown up!

I’m next, and sadly, I’m about to be pretty grown up too (3-5!!)
