Review of 3 Cleaner Shampoos + Conditioners

Skincare & Beauty

Is anyone else always on the hunt for clean shampoo and conditioners? I’ve tried three this year and am sharing my thoughts below.  My hair is color treated, sometimes dry, and pretty oily.

Rahua Classic Shampoo + Conditioner

I really wanted to love this because I’ve heard such great things. It’s also the most expensive of the three I tried (and 1 oz less product).  But, I really don’t like the smell!!  I could put up with the smell if I LOVED either product, but both the shampoo and conditioner had things I didn’t like about them, so this came in last place.

-The shampoo has a little bit of lather to it, but for some reason it’s still hard to spread out on the scalp. I found myself going back for more product to make sure I’d covered all the areas because I had a couple of times where it was clear I had missed a spot.

-The conditioner was really thick with great slip, but once I rinsed it out, my hair was still tangled and hard to comb.

Beautycounter Daily Shampoo + Conditioner

I really liked the smell and this was the cheapest of the three lines.

-The shampoo has the best lather of the three products and left my hair feeling really clean.

-The conditioner felt thick, but sadly didn’t have enough slip for me and it was still hard to comb through my hair (maybe would work for really short or fine hair).

I’m thinking about buying just the shampoo and pairing it with the conditioner below (spoiler, my favorite).

Innersense Pure Harmony Hair Bath + Color Radiance Daily Conditioner

I’m so impressed by this line because it uses so many plant-based ingredients and still does a decent job. I like the smell, but don’t feel like it’s anything special (like that Herbal Essence scent from high school).

-The shampoo doesn’t have much lather, but it spreads around the scalp easily because the shampoo is thin. My hair felt good afterwards but didn’t have that just washed feeling like the Beautycounter Daily.

-I LOVE the conditioner – it instantly detangles and leaves my hair feeling awesome.  My only complaint is that it feels like I have to use a lot of product since it’s so thick.

I think I might need a shampoo that’s a little more clarifying since my hair tends to get really greasy – I’m hoping the combination of the Beautycounter Daily shampoo + Innersense Color Radiance conditioner will work well. I generally like using two products from the same line/brand, but it’s so hard finding the perfect combination!

I recently tried the Beautycounter Daily and have been very happy. I do agree with you that the “slip” (good word!) is not ideal. I will have to try this other brand when I come to your house next!

Monat is a good option to try. I’ve been using it for a year and a half and really like it. You do a double wash, the first time it doesn’t lather up great but the second one definitely does. The conditioner is really good also.
